캐나다가 다민족 다문화를 적극적으로 받아들이는 만큼
토론토 대학에도 학생들의 인종 구성이 다양해서 서로의 문화에 대한 이해와 포용력이 넓은 편입니다.
프로그램도 다양하여 인문자연대학 학부과정에만 2,000여개 과목이 개설되어 있고, 81개의 박사학위
프로그램, 그리고 수 많은 산학협동, 평생교육, 언어연수과정 등이 마련되어 있습니다.
세계적인 명망을 갖춘 토론토대학의 교수진들은 자연과학, 사회과학, 인문과학 분야의 선두에서 학생들에게
뛰어난 공부환경을 제공하고 있으며 노벨상 수상자만 해도 6명이 이학교 출신입니다.
하지만 강의당 학생 수가 너무 많아 한 예를 들자면 1학년 심리학 강의 (PSY 100-Introduction
to Psychology) 인원은 2,000여명을 웃돌고 있습니다. 이러한 점을 보완하기 위해서
대부분의 강의는 Tutorial System이 있는데 대개 박사과정이나 석사과정의 학생들이 일반
학생들의 질문이나, Essay를 도와주고 있습니다. 또 한가지는 다른 대학교에 비해 점수 얻기가
상당히 어려워 졸업하기가 아주 어렵습니다. 게다가 캠퍼스가 너무 커서 수업중 이동시 시간이 너무
많이 걸린다는 것입니다. |
